I love this list! They are all books I love or plan to read. I agree that we need to cling to the habit of reading books and training our brains to pay attention. I just finished God of the Garden by Andrew Peterson and loved it. I felt so understood in my craft as a writer and the doubts we face. Now I am reading Everything Sad Is Untrue. The point of view as an immigrant boy comparing his childhood home in Iran with his new home in America is gripping emotionally and artistically. So well written. I look forward to your next set of recommendations!

Thank you for reading this post, Abigail! And thank you so much for leaving the comment. Getting a feedback for a writer is so important, right? I mean it feels great when you don't write into a void haha!

I will check on the books you've mentioned! They sound like really good reads!

Great reading list, Maria!! Frankl’s book has deeply impacted me. And I’ve really wanted to read the new Elredge book so thank you for sharing those powerful quotes!!

I'm so glad you like the list, Bethany!🤍 Yes, Frankl's writing and message...those are really powerful!

I am very much into Wild at Heart world, I have to fight the urge to include Eldredge's books into all book recommendations 😅

P. S. I am still very confused about how Substack works. It didn't notify me about your comment, so I'm late with the response again. My apologies!

“Man’s Search for Meaning” is a book I’ve known of for decades but have never read. “Experience Jesus. Really.” is fantastic. I have a copy of “The Shallows” on my bookshelf waiting to be read. “The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe” is a classic. It may be time to dust that off again.

I’m currently reading “Living in Wonder” by Rod Dreher. Blaine Eldredge recommended it in a recent Wild at Heart podcast. It parallels well with “Experience Jesus. Really.”

I recently finished “God Has a Name” by John Mark Comer. It was republished and updated after 10 years or so. Great read on the most quoted verse of the Bible, in the Bible. Exodus 34:4-7.

The next couple for me will be “The Familiar Stranger: (Re)Introducing the Holy Spirit to Those in Search of an Experiential Spirituality” by Tyler Stanton. And the new version of “The Sacred Romance” by Brent Curtis & John Eldredge.

You are an avid reader, Brian! Thank you for sharing your books!

If Blaine recommends something it's definitely worth reading. I'm planning to read some day his "Paradise King".

About John Mark Comer: I personally enjoyed his Ruthless Elimination of Hurry back in 2020. But recently I have met lots of writers here talking about why everything about J M Comer is wrong! Criticising him is kind of a popular thing here😅

The Sacred Romance I read in 2015 or in 2016, i don't remember. Loved it immediately! Didn't have a chance to read the updated version.

For those who think J M Comer is wrong…..oh well….that’s there loss.
